Frame Relay

Frame Relay is interesting material, book from IDN (ID Networking) very helpful.
Diagram below is the lab that has just done today, of course with GNS3 :

Repeat-repeat makes perfect.. :-)

Start to reach my dream...slow but sure..(javanese people said that.. :-)

Its has been 2 years ago after i pass my CCIP and dreaming to become CCIE. Now keep dreaming but I need to take action immediately, my huge project almost over and i have better time to learn now. Here is my plan brow, i need to remember my own plan to become CCIE R&S :

I will keep posting to keep my mind keep remember to become CCIE R&S immediately.
Keep dreaming, take action and giving extra mile.

3 Part Interesting Subject in Telco Network

Design, implementation and troubleshooting telecommunication network is one of the most fun things in my life. I learn how to be creative and artist in telecommunication network.
Everyday I live with these part below, friend with the problem. I will share how to design and troubleshooting 3 part interesting subject in Telco Network.

3 Part Interesting Subject in Telco Network :
1. IP RAN (Radio Access Network) :
   - How mobile phone can create call, receive call and browsing internet
   - Connection mobile phone and part of IP RAN (BTS, NodeB, MSS, SGSN and GGSN ) in CS Core and PS Core services

2. IPBB (IP Backbone) or IP Core MPLS :
   - How we create new PE Router
   - How we design services VRF (Virtual Routing Forwarding) in PE Router
   - How PE, P, and RR works together in MPLS L3 VPN

3. DCN (Data Center Network) :
   - All about how to connecting devices
   - All about you know what IP Address (source, destination, tcp/udp, and services)
   - Many services in this part including Billing, VAS, GGSN, SGSN, PS Core Network, Data Center, and etc.

I think all of this knowledge must be written, if not maybe i will lost this knowledge. Let me share and hope it would be beneficial for us.

Refresh My Mind

Just now, i am focusing my study in telco network. Maybe Next week i will get my CCIE R&S Written. Trying to become CCIE is not easy, i think i need to focus and keep my motivation to get this prestigious title.
Keep in Huawei for a while, continue to learn telco network in telecommunication company.

I learn about design and troubleshooting telco network in this company. As long as we can learn about this telco technology, i think is no problem even you are in Huawei, Nokia, Ericsson or maybe another elite telco company.

Now, all telco devices are base on IP. BTS, Node B, BSC, RNC, STP, HLR, VAS, SGSN, GGSN, and many devices in telco are base on IP. As Datacomm Engineer, I learn how to design, how to troubleshoot all this devices base on point of view network.

Already 1 year i never write this blog, later I want to share my knowledge, because the more we share the more we will be able to.

Technology Overview: Access Networks (GSM/GPRS/EDGE)

GSM/GPRS/EDGE

Overview Mobile Network Evolution Telecommunication Technology

Lets we start with GSM (Global System for MobileCommunication)
  1. GSM Network Architecture

We can see at picture above, this picture explain how we communicate using Mobile Station (Voice only). Just keep in your mind, the whole topology GSM. Signal from mobile station can trough BTS (Base Transciever Station) using Um interface (using air). Then BTS will sending it to BSC (Base Station Controller) using Abis interface the will be go to MSC using A interface.
Then will be check at HLR (Home Location Register) or VLR (Visitors Location Register)to check your location and the receiver.  After billing and your and receiver location already knowed and valid, MSC (Mobile Switching Center) will swich and connect your mobile station to the receiver mobile station.
Gateway MSC (GMSC) :
A Gateway Mobile Switching Centre (GMSC) provides the edge function within the mobile network. It terminates the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) signalling and traffic formats and converts to protocols employed in mobile networks. For mobile terminated services, it interacts with the HLR (Home Location Register) to perform routing functions.

  1. GSM Interface and Protocols
Just read and only know

  1. GSM Air Interface Channel Structure

GPRS (General Packet Radio Service)
  1. GPRS Architecture
GPRS allows mobile station to access internet. Only promises data rates from 56 up to 114 Kbps.

  1. These picture below are interface and protocols of GPRS network

  1. GPRS have 2 planes : Control and User Planes

  2. GPRS Core Protocol -- GTP

  1. GPRS User Sessions -- PDP Context
A Packet Data Protocol (PDP) context is a GPRS user session established allowing the MS and the network to exchange IP packets with QoS specifications. A PDP Context has a record of parameters, which consists of all the required information for establishing the end-to-end connection:
    • PDP Type
    • PDP address type
    • QoS profile request (QoS parameters requested by user)
    • QoS profile negotiated (QoS parameters negotiated by network)
    • Authentication type (PAP or CHAP)
    • DNS type (Dynamic DNS or Static DNS)
Edge (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution)
Step GSM migration to 3G, using new air-interface technology, 8 Phase Shift Keying Modulation (8-PSK) to offer 48 kbits/s per GSM timeslot. Overall offer data speed 384Kbps places EDGE, called 2.75G technology.

a.     EDGE Network Architecture
MS and RAN (BTS+BSC) need to upgrade to support EDGE functionalities.
